BB June - Mastectomy Tattoos and Scar Cover Ups
BB June grew up in Asheville, North Carolina. She is a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, and a mom. When BB was a student at San Francisco State University she made extra money on the weekends doing henna. Henna allowed BB to apply her art on living and breathing canvases. Many of her clients told her they wished her artwork could be permanent. This sparked her interest in tattooing.
In the spring of 2008 she apprenticed for her good friend Jessica Cooke, in the Bay Area in California. Cooke served not only as a mentor but was also a big influence on BB. After years of tattooing and developing her personal tattoo aesthetic, she moved back to her home in Asheville, North Carolina. BB wakes up everyday to help transcribe other people’s stories into works of art.
BB joined the Inked Phoenix Project after being inspired by Kirsten’s story and goals. BB has a wealth of experience with scar cover-ups and tattooing around scars. While clients may have not wanted the scars they have, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to create something beautiful and help them either display their scars with pride, or conceal their scars with something beautiful. She believes the tattoo merely adds to the story told on skin that the scar is only half capable of telling.
BB currently works at Thistle and Pearl Tattoo Shop.
